< Back Press Articles Less Than 1,000 Followers Samsara’s “Invisible” is delicate country pop at its finest Samsara is a lovely singer from the United Kingdom, currently based in the United States, who’s already got an impressive run of singles and accolades under her belt. The young artist started her career as a backing vocalist for acts such as Bryan Adams and Don Henley and now is a star in her own right. Her single “Invisible” is, perhaps, the epitome of how powerful her songs can be. Bandcamp Spotify Facebook Twitter TikTok ORDER NOW INVISIBLE BY SAMSARA ON BANDCAMP samsarasings.bandcamp.com Invisible, by Samsara track by Samsara The talented singer’s strengths rely on her honest, sometimes brutal, lyrics that are inspired by life’s deep pains and joys – and also, her cats. Spawning a wide variety of genres, from indie pop to jazz and country, Samsara’s got over twenty singles and an EP under her name; all within the past two years. Her writing is incredibly personal and her vocal performance is astounding in each release, proving herself as a powerhouse storyteller and songwriter. “I think a lot of musicians feel invisible and unheard, so the song has resonated with many musicians. It also resonates with women who feel unseen and unheard. I’ve had multiple people tell me it is the story of their lives. I have also wanted to let listeners come to their own conclusions about the meaning of the song.” SAMSARA “Invisible”, tells a tale of hopelessness, and her delivery is so on-point that she goes through the motions of pain and loss and takes us with her every step of the way. With lyrics that go from ‘ I’m so lost and all alone, and I don’t have a clue where I’m going to ‘ to ‘ I know I’m broken, but I think I can heal ‘. There’s sorrow in her voice, and she sings in a way that makes us feel her pain and ache with her. Even with all the heartbreak and sadness, she still somehow ends up in a bright and hopeful place – and that’s truly remarkable. The production of “Invisible” relies on simplicity. It is a lovely country-inspired pop ballad, carried by acoustic guitars and shy strings; it does a wonderful job of never overshadowing the raw emotions in her vocals and lyrics. “Invisible” is a powerful track, coming from a place of truth and humanity like very few others. Samsara is a force of nature, and her career is still at its very beginning. This girl is going places, and I hope I can tag along on her ride. I write what I’m feeling and sing it with emotion. I don’t try to create a hit song. I just write from my heart.” SAMSARA STREAM NOW “INVISIBLE” BY SAMSARA ON SPOTIFY Don’t forget to support this project and follow Samsara on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, SoundCloud, YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify. • Samsara -The Musician

< Back Press Articles The Musician An Interview with Samsara Samsara’s life has seen her move from one country to another. When she was eleven, her parents moved from England, where she was born, to Ireland. Aged twenty, she was on the move again: this time to Chicago, in the United States. ‘When I was twenty, I moved to Chicago in the US with a backpack and two hundred dollars. Since then, I lived in Florida for ten years and I've been in the Washington DC area for the last eleven years.’ She started out as a jazz singer, did backing vocals and then walked away from music for a while, she says. The last six years have been busy musically, with this year seeing her release most of her music. When it comes to what good music is, she says she likes music that tell stories. The singer, who’s forever writing new song, says that she’s finishing up an EP that will be released this week. That’s not the only stuff she’s working on: she has an LP that has song she’s done over the last few years. In terms of her philosophy or approach to music, she says she doesn’t worry about worry about the audience. She’s worried about making music that pleases her. L. SOJINI: Can you tell us about yourself? Where you’re from and what kind of musician you are. SAMSARA: I was born in London, England. When I was eleven, my parents moved us to Ireland. When I was twenty, I moved to Chicago in the US with a backpack and two hundred dollars. Since then, I lived in Florida for ten years and I've been in the Washington DC area for the last eleven years. I started out as a jazz singer. Then, I toured as a backing vocalist for a few years. I left the road and walked away from music for a while. But, I always went back to cover bands, wedding bands, etc. Over the past six years, I've written a great deal of my own music and I decided this year to release them. They range from pop, dance, rock, blues, jazz and even some Disney-esque sounds. L. SOJINI: How did you get into music? SAMSARA: My mother said I was singing before I could talk. I started writing songs when I was five. They weren't very good, but I just couldn't stop. I got into music theatre at school and was in my first cover band at fifteen. L. SOJINI: What do you think makes good music? SAMSARA: Music that evokes emotions in the listener. I need to feel the music I listen to. If there's a vocalist, I want to hear the raw emotion in his or her voice more than I want to hear perfect technical range or the stratospheric high note. I like music that tells a story. L. SOJINI: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a musician? SAMSARA: I'm an emotional singer and I've often been told that can be heard in my voice and the way I convey a song. I try to tell a story for those listening. As a songwriter, I do the same. I believe the bridge is the climax of the song and by the time I get there, the listener should really feel the song in their soul. L. SOJINI: What are you currently working on? SAMSARA: I'm finishing up an EP of six songs that will be released next week. It tells the complete arc of a love story that didn't work out. Some of the songs sound dreamy and Disney-esque. There's a reggae island vibe in one. And then, a country blues song, and an acoustic guitar track with a country vibe. I'm also working on an LP of other songs written over the past several years. And I'm working on an NFT project that will combine my art and my music, with a portion of the proceeds donated to a cat shelter – I'm passionate about saving cats. I'm creating some songs for a nonprofit in Australia and I'm adding vocals to a couple of songs written by other artists. I can't seem to stop writing new songs as I'm so inspired this year. So, there will be more projects. In other words, I'm busy. L. SOJINI: How do you approach music? As in, what’s your philosophy when it comes to making music? SAMSARA: To be as authentic as humanly possible and communicate what's going on with my feelings. I think everyone has similar feelings and someone will relate. I don't think about how the audience will receive it. I write what I feel from my heart. L. SOJINI: What are you most proud of to have achieved as a musician? SAMSARA: This year, I wrote, recorded vocals for, played keys on, produced other musicians and wrote my first song. I've done several others since then. These are new skills I've learned and I'm so proud that I was able to do them. I've also recorded the vocal takes in one sitting so they're essentially ‘live’. I'm very proud of that. L. SOJINI: How do you promote your music? SAMSARA: I probably don't promote as well as I should because I don't have enough time. I try to promote on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. L. SOJINI: Favourite musician? Why? SAMSARA: Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey. The emotion he conveys in every song is second to none. His incredible voice, combined with his diction and music sensibility gets right through to my heart. L. SOJINI: What’s your advice or message to fellow musicians? SAMSARA: Be who you are. Work hard. If you're a singer, sing every single day. Listen to yourself all the time and work on what you like and don't like. If you play an instrument, play it every single day. Never give up. - L. One could easily call Samsara's life extraordinary. She once sang backing vocals for the stars (Steve Winwood, Don Henley, Bryan Adams, Kenny Loggins ). Today, she writes evocative relatable songs about her life, love, heartbreak, and her cats. Her richly-toned lavish voice spans several genres: pop, adult contemporary, country, rock, and jazz. She is frequently compared to female icons such as Stevie Nicks, Taylor Swift, Adele, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Jewel, Debby Harry and Reba McEntire . But perhaps it's the deep pain and incredible joys of her life that creates Samsara's beautiful songs and speak to your soul. Her sound is unique and captivating, drawing from a wide range of influences and emotions. Her lyrics are honest, her melodies memorable, and her performances powerful. Each song tells a story, capturing a moment in time and creating a space for you -- the listener -- to reflect on your own experiences. Samsara swears that she does not actually write them herself -- she speaks of waking up with songs haunting her until she commits them to a recording. No matter the source, the result is always something special. Born in London, England, Samsara began to sing as a child with her father. Music and cats were always her escape from the horrendous abuse of a wicked mother who told little Samsara "You are evil, insane, possessed of demons and have to die to save the world." Her mother convinced Samsara she was ugly. (Today, her cover art features a photo of her face to counter those words.) "Brits Out!" Samsara's family moved to Ireland when she was 11. She attended boarding school where the nuns ridiculed her English accent. The other kids hung her stuffed animals in her dorm room with notes attached to the hanging rope that said: "Brits out" and "You're next." (Does this explain her insistence to spell lyrics in the British fashion, such as her song "Favourite Mistake ?") Even then, Samsara's captivating performances and infectious energy resulted in classmates demanding the nuns put her on stage. "I always knew I was good for something when I performed," she says. When she was 15, Samsara fronted her first cover band. Later that year, her beloved father passed away suddenly. Her mother remarried and life got worse. Much worse. Samsara was subjected to violent and sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather and stepbrother. At 16, she climbed out a window and ran away, never to return. She worked her way through university. Always around music, one of her odd jobs in university was at a record store. (She calls it a record "shop" in "Strawberry Parfait . ") "A backpack full of hopes and dreams." At 20, Samsara moved to the US with $200 and a backpack full of hopes and dreams. At 22, she was involved in a boating accident causing a brain injury that left her in a coma for 3 weeks. She has never driven due to a seizure disorder resulting from that injury. When she awoke, she was briefly paralyzed on one side of her body. While in rehab, determined to walk, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. An unlikely audition set her on the road as a backing vocalist to Steve Winwood. "I was in the right place at the right time with the right look and sound," she claims. But when it came to making it as a solo artist, Samsara tells a different story. "There was already one Stevie Nicks and the industry didn't need another." She wrote a song called "Hero " for an indie movie. While helping a friend launch a restaurant, she was singing one of Bryan Adams' songs when the artist himself walked in and proferred his manager's business card. That brought about another year on the road. Alas, Samsara suffers from chronic autoimmune GI disorders which made it difficult to endure that life. She returned to school to pursue an MBA and got a "real job." On weekends, she performed in wedding bands. She wrote a motivational book and toured as a motivational speaker. She founded a very successful business. Life was going well. Then came more heartbreak and pain. "It wasn't my fault." In the haunting song "It Wasn't My Fault ," Samsara sings about the "knight in shining armour rode up on a big white steed." Unfor tunately, he became her captor. She tells of 7 long years where he rarely allowed her to speak, never mind sing. When, as she describes in the song, he "almost took her breath of life," Samsara escaped. She suffers from severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder which singing helps. A 4.5 year divorce found her fighting for her right to not reveal her new address to her abuser. Always the fighter, Samsara represented herself in an appeal that resulted in a landmark decision allowing domestic violence victims in address confidentiality programs to keep their addresses private. Eventually, she took the stage again with cover bands. However, it was a brain tumor, followed by another heartbreak, and the loss of her beloved cat, "Socsana ," that inspired her to release her music. Samsara has released 22 singles, 2 full-length albums and an EP .
